Agave ovatifolia 'Orca' may be one of the ultimate collector succulent plants, yet anyone aware of this astonishingly attractive agave knows that rarity represents only part of its incredible appeal. A variegated form of Agave ovatifolia (whale's tongue agave), the plant was discovered in the mountains of northeast Mexico. Its discoverer named it ‘Orca’ because, well, it’s a killer whale of an agave. Like its namesake dolphin, Agave ovatifolia 'Orca' is loaded with personality. As it develops, 'Orca' displays broad, ovate (egg-shaped), cupped leaves and stunning, symmetrical, solitary form. Generous creamy to grayish-greenish yellow variegation borders blue on both sides. The leaves are serrated on the margins and tipped with long terminal spines. You will receive a fully rooted greenhouse-grown Agave ovatifolia 'Orca' in a 3.5"" pot. The variegation starts on the subtle side and becomes more prominent as the plant matures. The plant’s variegation may be more greenish when it arrives. The color will brighten (more yellow) with exposure to full sunlight. We recommend acclimating the plant gradually. A really neat aspect about 'Orca' versus many other prized variegated agaves is that it commands meaningful size potential, maturing to near 3 feet high and up to 5 feet wide. Yet as a solitary plant it will not be a nuisance in the garden. You have several options for spotlighting 'Orca'. As it puts on size it becomes an off-the-charts ornamental eyeful in the landscape, such as on a slope. Also excels as a conversation-sparking container specimen on the patio. Provide full to part sun. In areas with toasty summers it will appreciate an afternoon break from the hot sun. While a low-water plant once established, 'Orca' will look best in hot weather with extra water. You can feed at half strength during spring and summer.

  • This ornamental whale's tongue Agave plant is the perfect exotic succulent to elevate any plant collection
