- Professional-Grade Steel Jaws -- This blacksmith tongs forged with high quality 5160 spring steel. This makes them lighter and stronger than other tongs, which translates into a more comfortable grip and less fatigue on your hand. This scroll tongs cleaned in a vibratory tumbler, and finished with a dry linseed oil/turpentine mix, rust inhibitor. (Not a greasy or oily finish.)
- Item Specifications -- The tongs are approximately 17 inches long. The jaws are approximately 4" long, 2-3/5" wide, and the handles are approximately 13" long. When fully open, the jaws are 3-1/2" long and 4" wide. These tongs will open to hold up to 1-inch bar (more or less,) but can easily be adjusted by heating and bending, if needed.
- Note -- When cooling the tongs, you need to rapidly dunk the tongs in water, in and out quickly, allowing the tongs to cool slowly. This can effectively prevent the material from becoming hard and brittle, maintaining a long service life of the tongs.
